The Federal Ministry of Education has dismissed as false and misleading reports circulating on social media alleging that the Federal Government Girls’ College (FGGC), Monguno, Borno State, was attacked.
In a statement issued by the Ministry’s Director of Press and Public Relations, Mrs. Boriowo Folasade, the reports were described as “entirely false, irresponsible, and capable of causing unnecessary panic, fear, and anxiety among parents, guardians, and the general public.”
The Ministry stated unequivocally that there was no attack on FGGC, Monguno, stressing that the school remains safe and secure, with all students, staff, and boarding facilities fully protected and accounted for. It added that academic, boarding, and other school activities are continuing uninterrupted in a peaceful environment.
The Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa, reaffirmed that the safety, security, and welfare of learners in all Federal Government Colleges remain a top priority of the Federal Government. According to the Minister, FGGC, Monguno, operates under robust security arrangements designed to ensure the continuous protection of students, staff, and school facilities.
Alausa also clarified that no student of FGGC, Monguno, was involved in the incident being falsely linked to the school on social media. He explained that those affected were remedial students outside the college and noted that the Borno State Government is already taking the necessary steps to ensure their safety and welfare.
The Ministry urged the public, particularly social media users, bloggers, and online platforms, to verify information through credible and official sources before publishing or sharing it. It warned that the deliberate spread of unverified information misinforms the public, creates needless fear, undermines public confidence, and distracts from ongoing efforts to provide safe and conducive learning environments for students.
The statement also appealed to parents and guardians to remain calm and continue to support their children with confidence, assuring them that there is no security threat at FGGC, Monguno.
The Ministry reiterated its commitment to working closely with relevant security agencies, state authorities, and school managements to sustain the safety and security of all Federal Government Colleges nationwide.
The statement added that timely and accurate information would continue to be provided through its official communication channels and advised the public to disregard the fake report in its entirety.
