The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), Katsina SubbRegion, has strengthened its collaboration with the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Katsina State Command, to enhance the protection of power transmission infrastructure and tackle the growing challenges of vandalism and Right-of-Way (RoW) encroachment.
The renewed partnership was reaffirmed during a courtesy visit by TCN’s Assistant General Manager, Transmission, Engr. Usman S. Idris, to the NSCDC Katsina State Command on July 6, 2026.
During the visit, Engr. Idris commended the Command for its prompt response to previous security concerns and briefed officers on recent attacks on transmission facilities within the sub-region.
He disclosed that towers T 219 and T-228 along the Katsina–Daura 132kV transmission line were recently vandalized. The damage was discovered during a routine patrol and, according to him, highlights the persistent threat posed by vandals to critical electricity infrastructure.
Engr. Idris said such acts of sabotage undermine the integrity of the national transmission network and threaten the stability of electricity supply, stressing the need for sustained collaboration between both organisations to safeguard critical national assets.
Responding, the Katsina State Commandant of the NSCDC, Abbas Dan-Ile Moriki, said investigations into the reported incidents had commenced. He assured TCN of the Corps’ continued support and pledged closer coordination to curb vandalism and Right-of-Way encroachment through proactive security measures.
Both organisations reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening information sharing and joint efforts to protect the nation’s transmission infrastructure from criminal activities.
