The Federal Government has intensified efforts to strengthen digital identity across Nigeria’s education sector as part of measures to improve planning, data management and policy implementation.

Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Olatunji Alausa, stated this when he received a delegation from the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) on a working visit to his office in Abuja.

The Minister said the partnership between the Ministry and NIMC would enhance education planning, strengthen the credibility of education data and support evidence-based policymaking across the sector.

Dr. Alausa disclosed that the Ministry has already aligned the National Learners Identification Number (LIN) with the National Identification Number (NIN) through the Nigeria Education Management Information System (NEMIS), a move he said is improving the quality of education data used for planning, monitoring and resource allocation.

Earlier, the Director-General of the National Identity Management Commission, Engr. Bisoye Coker-Odusote, said the Commission was engaging Ministries, Departments and Agencies across the country to sensitise stakeholders on the reforms introduced by the newly enacted National Identity Management Commission Act, 2026.

The collaboration is expected to deepen the integration of digital identity into the education sector, providing more reliable data to support planning, service delivery and the Federal Government’s broader digital transformation agenda.
