Former Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mohammed Adamu (rtd), has officially entered the race for the governorship of Nasarawa State, identifying the restoration of total security as his primary objective if elected.
Speaking during a mobilization drive for his supporters ahead of the party’s primary elections, Adamu confirmed his readiness to participate in the direct primary process. He emphasized that his campaign is currently focused on sensitizing and mobilizing his grassroots base to ensure a strong showing at the polls.
Security as a Foundation
When questioned on his immediate priority upon assuming office, the former police boss stated that establishing a “solid foundation of security” is a prerequisite for any meaningful development in the state.
”My first priority is to provide adequate security in the state,” Adamu said. “We need to provide physical security and human security in all aspects. The moment we establish that, it will be very easy for us to achieve other developmental projects.”
He further noted that his administration would roll out specific initiatives aimed at economic development, with a particular focus on empowering women and the youth.
Reaction to Incumbent’s Endorsement
Adamu also addressed the political climate in the state, specifically the reported endorsement of Aliyu Wadada by the sitting governor. Maintaining a composed stance, the retired IGP dismissed any feelings of being threatened by the governor’s preference.
”The governor is a human being… he has a preferred candidate and he has the right to do that,” Adamu remarked. He likened the endorsement to the personal choice of any citizen, stating that his team takes no offense at the development.
Adamu concluded by appealing to the people of Nasarawa State for their support, stressing that the final decision rests with the electorate.
