The Independent National Electoral Commission has postponed its planned nationwide voter revalidation exercise earlier scheduled to take place this year.

This was disclosed in a statement by Mohammed Kudu Haruna, National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, following a meeting with Resident Electoral Commissioners (RECs) held on Friday, April 10, 2026, in Abuja.

Haruna said the decision to defer the exercise was reached after deliberations at the meeting, adding that the voter revalidation will now be conducted after the 2027 general elections.

He described the voter revalidation exercise as a critical component of the Commission’s mandate to maintain a credible and up-to-date National Register of Voters.

According to him, the exercise is designed to verify and update voter records, ensure the accuracy of personal data, eliminate duplicate and ineligible entries, and strengthen the integrity of the voter register.

It is also intended to provide registered voters the opportunity to confirm their details and make necessary corrections where required.

INEC reaffirmed its commitment to conducting free, fair, credible, and inclusive elections across the country.
