The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has fixed February 20, 2027, for the conduct of the Presidential and National Assembly elections, while Governorship and State Houses of Assembly elections will hold on March 6, 2027.

INEC Chairman, Professor Joash Amupitan, announced this during a news conference in Abuja.

Professor Amupitan said the release of the election dates and schedule of activities for the 2027 General Election is in compliance with the 2022 Electoral Act, which mandates the commission to publish a notice of election not later than 360 days before the appointed date.

The INEC Chairman also defended the Commission’s proposed ₦873 billion budget for the 2027 elections, stating that a significant portion of the funds would be allocated to the training of personnel and other critical logistics to ensure a credible exercise.

He further revealed plans to conduct a mock presidential election to test innovations and technological deployments ahead of the general elections, assuring that all systems would be optimally functional before the polls.

Highlights of the 2027 General Election timetable show that INEC will publish the final list of nominated candidates on August 15, 2026, for Presidential and National Assembly elections, and October 6, 2026, for Governorship and State Assembly elections.
Campaigns by political parties are scheduled to commence on September 23, 2026, for Presidential and National Assembly candidates, and October 7, 2026, for Governorship and State Assembly candidates exactly 150 days before their respective polling dates.
