Benin Republic Electoral Body Visits INEC For Knowledge Sharing.
A 12-member delegation from the Autonomous National Electoral Commission of Benin Republic (CENA) led by its chairman, Dr Sacca Lafia is currently in Nigeria to understudy the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) ahead of the republic’s 2026 general election.
Receiving the Benin delegation at the Commission’s headquarters in Abuja, INEC Chairman, Professor Mahmood Yakubu, said for the first time in its history, CENA will be conducting three elections within a period of three months.
Yakubu said CENA is interested in the legal framework for elections in Nigeria, the design and printing of election materials and forms, the recruitment and training of poll officials, election budgeting and mode of payment to different service providers among other electoral schedules of the commission.
Yakubu assured the delegation of the willingness of the commission to share its experience and make available relevant documents that will enrich their understanding of Nigeria’s electoral processes.
Speaking through an interpreter, the President of CENA, Sacca Lafia said they are at the commission to understudy the Nigeria electoral process ahead of the 2026 election in Benin.
While Legislative and local elections in Benin Republic will be held in January 2026, the presidential poll is slated for April.
