Plateau State Sets For NEWMAP-EIB Erosion Control Funding, Awaits Full Project Implementation
The Plateau State Government has achieved significant progress toward accessing critical funding from the Nigeria Climate Adaptation Erosion and Watershed Project (NEWMAP-EIB), after meeting all essential requirements set by the European Investment Bank (EIB).
In a statement signed by the Communication Specialist of NEWMAP-EIB, Madina Gertrude and made available to Channel Network Afrique, Engr. Yalaks affirmed that Plateau has successfully fulfilled all EIB prerequisites, including establishing a well-equipped State Project Management Unit (SPMU), recruiting qualified personnel, and providing initial counterpart funding.
Speaking at a courtes visit to the Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang at the Government House in Jos, NEWMAP-EIB’s National Project Coordinator, Engr. Anda Ayuba Yalaks, said the steps have positioned the state as a key player in the NEWMAP-EIB’s mission to combat erosion and restore land affected by degradation, making the state eligible for forthcoming disbursements.
Engr. Yalaks also reported that his team has completed site assessments across Plateau, focusing on the areas most vulnerable to erosion. He praised the state’s proactive approach and urged Governor Mutfwang to continue bolstering the SPMU with additional vehicles and resources to ensure smooth project execution.
“With your continued support, we are on track to implement impactful solutions to erosion and watershed challenges across the state,” he noted.
Governor Mutfwang expressed enthusiasm for the project’s progress and pledged his administration’s full backing.
“We are ready to provide the support necessary to see this project succeed, for the benefit of our communities and the environment,” he stated.
The meeting, attended by key figures from both NEWMAP-EIB and Plateau’s government, marked an important step forward in Plateau State’s journey to secure sustainable environmental solutions under the NEWMAP-EIB framework.
