President Bola Tinubu says the decision to sign the DICON act 2023 into law within his first six months in office was informed by the need to ensure the speedy growth of the Defence Industries Cooperation of Nigeria and Nigeria’s Military Industrial Complex.

The president who disclosed this at the DICON 60th anniversary celebration, and the inaugural African Defence Industries Conference, in Abuja, also affirmed that National security remains a top priority of his administration.

Represented by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, President Tinubu said the move is to bridge the performance gap in the military industrial complex to provide a robust framework to drive strategic objectives.

Earlier in his remarks, the Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle said DICON since inception 60 years ago has made significant contributions to the nation’s defence architecture.

Meanwhile, the Director General of DICON, Maj. Gen Aneidi Edet, said the cooperation over the years has evolved significantly, adapting to the dynamic landscapes of military technology and global defence trends.

DICON was established in 1964, with mandate to manufacture and supply arms and ammunition as well as inspect and recommend ordinance material intended for use by the Armed Forces and other security agencies.
