The Inter Party Advisory Council (IPAC) has commended the ruling of the supreme Court which granted financial autonomy to Local Governments in the country.
Addressing a news conference in Abuja, IPAC National Chairman, Alhaji Yusuf Dantalle also applauded the ruling of the Apex court restraining State Governors from constituting Caretaker Committees to run the affairs of the third tier of government.
Commending the federal government for instituting the suit, Dantalle said the judgment will compliment efforts to revamp the economy and bolster grassroots development across the country.
The IPAC boss however expressed worry that some State Governors may seek ways to circumvent the ruling as he called on the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to do the needful by ensuring funds released to Local Governments are prudently and judiciously utilised.
Dantalle further called for the amendment of the constitution to scrap the charade called SIEC elections in the country.
Recall,the Supreme Court on 11th July 2024, delivered judgement in favour of the federal government in the suit seeking to grant financial autonomy to Local Governments.
