Police Arrests 8 For Murder Of Officers In Delta

The Nigeria Police says it has arrested 8 suspects linked with the murder of its officers on a fact finding mission in Ughelli area of Delta.

This is contained in a statement by the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi on Saturday in Abuja.

He said the officers on a fact finding mission were on Feb. 23, ambushed while others on rescue mission were also ambushed, resulting in the death of six police officers.

The police spokesman who said five suspects were initially arrested shortly after the incident, added that additional 3 others have also been apprehended at different locations.

He said the arrest of the additional three followed statements and cooperation of those initially arrested five

The statement said the arrested suspects are currently in custody and are assisting with the ongoing investigations .

“While the Nigeria Police Force is committed to ensuring that all those responsible for this reprehensible act are brought to justice, it assures that the suspects will soon have their day in court, with credible evidence, once investigations are concluded.

ACP Adejobi said the police is saddened by the heinous act of violence against its officers who were diligently performing their duty to protect and serve the community, adding that, their thoughts and prayers are with the families of the fallen officers during this difficult time.

He reiterated that killers of its officers in this extant case, and many others, have murdered peace, and none of them will go unpunished.
