The European Union says it will continue to support policies and actions of the Nigerian Government against corruption. This as the European body disclosed that it has expended over 88 million Euros to support the nations Anticorruption efforts since 2005.
EU Ambassador and Head of delegation to Nigeria and ECOWAS, Samuela Isopi gave the indication at the official launch of the Rule of Law and Anticorruption phase 2 Programme in Abuja.
Isopi who noted that the major obstacle in Nigeria’s fight against corruption is enforcement,said the EU’s intervention programmes have helped to strengthen evidence based policy making and people-oriented service delivery on Nigeria.
Speaking on the significance of the Rule of Law and Anti-corruption phase 1 Programme with over 1.5 million beneficiaries, Amb. Isopi said it has helped to increased compliance with the Administration of Criminal Justice law in Nigeria among other gains.
On his part, the Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Atiku Bagudu, who was represented by the Director International Cooperation Adekanye Olanrewaju, said the phase 2 of the project is expected to drive productivity and sustainable growth in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda of the present administration.
The second phase of the European Union €30m ROLAC Programme is to be implemented in the FCT, Adamawa, Anambra, Edo, Kano, and Lagos states.
