Off Cycle Elections: Court Orders On Nomination, Substitution Of Candidates Worrisome – INEC.

Ahead of the November 11th Governorship Elections in Kogi,Bayelsa and Imo states,the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC has expressed worry over the spate of recent judgements and orders of court as it affects the nomination, substitution of candidates after printing of sensitive materials.

INEC Chairman,Prof Mahmood Yakubu raised the concern at the quarterly consultative meeting with the leadership of Political Parties at the Commission headquarters in Abuja.

He said the reprinting of the materials within a short period of time is of additional monetary burden on the commission .

Prof Yakubu who further intimated the political stakeholders on activities so far implemented by the commission, tasked them and their supporters on the relevance of violence free polls.

Responding on the part of the political parties, the Chairman of Inter party Advisory Council, Engr Yagbaji Sani emphasised reasons why INEC must commit to the conduct of free and fair credible election.

Other takeaways from the meeting includes the plan by INEC to conclude the printing of political parties agents’ identity cards for prompt distribution before the November 11th Governorship polls.
