The Presidential Election Petition Court, PEPC, sitting in Abuja has adjourned further proceedings on the petition filed by the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and its candidate, Atiku Abubakar challenging the outcome of the 2023 presidential election.
A five man-panel led by Justice Haruna Tsammani adjourned the petition till May 18 for the continuation of the pre-hearing session.
Before adjourning the matter counsel to the petitioners, Chris Uche, informed the court that the parties in the matter met and agreed on modalities to be adopted in ensuring a seamless progress of the pre-hearing session.
Counsel to the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Abubakar Mahmood and that of the President-elect, Wole Olanipekun confirmed the agreement with the counsel to the petitioners.
While adjourning the matter, Justice Tsammani commended the parties for their cooperation and agreement, saying it would assist in quick conclusion of the pre-hearing session.
Atiku and other top members of PDP were among the dignitaries that attended the hearing.
Atiku and his party have maintained that the declaration of Tinubu as the winner of the presidential election was not compliance with the provisions of the Electoral Act, 2022.
Among the motions filed by the petitioners that are slated for hearing on May 18 is the one asking the court to allow for a live broadcast of the proceedings.
