The Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele has assured the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC of availability of cash for the smooth running of the general elections.
Emefiele gave the assurance when a delegation led by the INEC Chairman, Mahmood Yakubu paid him a courtesy visit at the CBN headquarters in Abuja.
The CBN Governor who was responding to some of the fears raised by the INEC chairman with key emphasis related to limits placed on cash withdrawals reinstated the commitment of the Apex bank to the nations democratic process.
Earlier, the INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu indicated concerns on the implication of the new financial Policy to the smooth conduct of the general election, especially as some of the commission’s critical service providers are unbanked.
With barely 18days to the general elections, Prof Yakubu expressed confidence that the out come of the engagement will help assuage the anxiety expressed by it’s critical partners on delivery a free, fair and credible election.
