The Federal Government has assured of efforts to implement and sustain measures that will address challenges of out of school children in the country.
Minister of Education,Mallam Adamu Adamu gave the indication at the conference of Out of School children held in Abuja.
Represented by the Director of Basic Education federal ministry of Education, Dr Folake Davies, the minister reeled various intervention by the government presently deployed to tackle the menace.
The minister who noted that the nations education system is too sensitive to be left in the hands of the government, called for review of approaches to addressing the OOSC scourge.
Adamu however called for more commitment from key stakeholders to complement government efforts for better outcomes In his welcome address, the representative of the United Nations Children’s Fund UNIICEF, Claes Johanson highlighted the challenges poised by out school children menace if left untackled advocating for urgent action to change the narrative. Other speakers on their part demanded for more political will especially from the part of state actors to address the concern.
The it is expected that recommendations from the meeting will further add to measures that will bring more children back to school. The theme of the conference is Rethinking the Approaches to addressing the out of school children phenomenon in Nigeria.
