The Court of Appeal in Abuja has adjourned till October 6 to hear the appeal filed by the Academic Staff Union of Universities against the ruling by the National Industrial Court that ordered the lecturers to go back to class room.

When the matter was called for hearing, counsel to ASUU, Femi Falana informed the three-man panel of the appellate court justices led by justice Barka Akawu of his readiness to proceed with the hearing.

Counsel To Federal Government, James Igwe objected on the ground that the application for hearing was not served on him. Consequently, the court adjourned till October 6 to enable the respondent counsel time to react to the ASUU application for a stay of the judgment of the Industrial court.

However, the appellate court justices advised both ASUU and the FG to seek amicable way of resolving the dispute without going into a legal battle for the sake of the Nigerian students.

ASUU had on September 23, filed 14 grounds of appeal against the ruling of Justice Hamman Polycarp of the National Industrial Court of Nigeria, which ordered that the striking lecturers go back to work pending the determination of a suit the Federal Government filed to query the legality of their strike.
