Over the years, products from Nigeria have continued to face rejection at the global markets on accounts of non-conformity to global best practices. The situation became a major source of worries for the government as its lost foreign earnings from the non-oil sector.
To address the challenge, the Nigerian Government through its Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment inaugurated a committee to tackle the problem.
The Committee which was constituted by the Minister on May 26, 2022, to look into the issue of rejection of the county’s agro-export at the international market and proffer appropriate recommendations to halt the trend did as was instructed.
Receiving the report in Abuja, the Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Richard Adebayo assured Nigerians that action would be taken to ensure that the country competes favourably in the global market space.
The Chairman of the Committee who is also the Director, Commodities and Export Department, FMITI, Suleman Audu identified some major findings made by the team to include technical barrier, non-adherence to best practices and disregard to basic requirements.
Membership of the Committee was drawn from the public and private sectors.
