Buhari Appoints Tellson As DG NPC
President Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR, has approved the appointment of Mr. Ojogun Tellson Osifo as the Director-General of the National Population Commission.
The appointment is for an initial term of four (4) years with effect from 4th August, 2022.
According to a statement from the Commission, Mr. Osifo is a consummate researcher with deep rooted experience in social, economic and health researches (including data collection, analysis and reporting) administrative, and programme management over the course of a career at the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), National Population Commission (NPC), Intrahealth International/Population Centre, University of North Carolina, USA, and other private and public agencies spanning over 30 years.
He holds BSc in Sociology, University of Ibadan, Ibadan; and Masters of Art in Population Studies, University of Ghana, Legon, as well as other related courses and training research process and implementation.
Osifo has actively participated in the planning, execution and dissemination of two Nigeria Censuses of 1991 and 2006. He has been part of the planning of the forthcoming 2023 Population and Housing Census.
Until his appointment, Mr. Osifo was a Data for Development Analyst with the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) and retired Director of Data Administration Center in the Planning and Research Department of the Commission.
Osifo had since resumed duties at the Commission taking over from the erstwhile acting Director General,Mrs Uju Patience Mbagwu.
