The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama says Nigeria will partner with the Republic of India in the area of Information and Communications Technology (ICT), renewable energy, trade and Economic development among other fields. Onyema stated this when the Indian Minister of State for External Affairs Shri Muraleedharan paid him a courtesy visit in Abuja.
He said with the cordial relationship already existing with both countries, Nigeria can benefit from India in the ICT sector which will increase and attract investment opportunities as well as diversify the economy and create more jobs. The Minister who noted that India has being one of Nigeria’s largest oil importer however called for support in the area of defence and investment in the power sector Onyeama however, assured that both countries will strengthen their bilateral relationship, so as to benefit from each other and grow the economy of their counties.
Earlier, the leader of the delegation from India, Shri Muraleedharan who stated that Nigeria has been the favourite investment destination for Indian businesses assured of their readiness to collaborate in different sectors noting that there is still great potential to enhance both countries economic cooperation. He further assured of their support for Nigeria’s aspirations in the international arena with optimism that the two countries can enhance it’s coordination at multilateral fora, especially with India scheduled to host the prestigious G20 Summit in 2023.
