The need to increase the cut off marks for students going into the nations tertiary institutions to study education by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board JAMB has once again been emphasized.
The gesture according to the vice Chairman,senate committee on Basic and Secondary Education,Senator Akon Eyakenyi will attract the best brains into the teaching profession.
The lawmaker who gave the indication while monitoring the ongoing National Personnel Audit by the Universal Basic Education Commission, UBEC explained that the teaching profession should not be a dumping ground for students who fail to secure admission to other professions.
He called for more support and attention to Education, especially as it relates to teachers development saying it is relevant to realizing the expected gains from various interventions in the sector.
The state of infrastructures in public school system also caught the attention of Senator Eyakenyi, who also made case for more funding for education. Commending UBEC for embarking on the National Personnel audit exercise, the lawmaker said the outcome will enable the National assembly do the needful in appropriation of funds to the sector.
The senate committee on basic and secondary education monitored the audit exercise i Federal Government Boys’ College Apo and Gaat International School, both in Abuja.
