The West African Examination Council (WAEC) says about 10 supervisors have been arrested for alleged involvement in examination malpractices on the ongoing senior secondary school certificate examination in the country.
Head of National Office WAEC Patrick Areghan gave the indication while monitoring the examination in some centres in Abuja and environs. He said the supervisors who were arrested in Lagos, Kano, Bayelsa and Kaduna States belong to a syndicate group with well defined objectives to undermine the integrity of the examination.
The WAEC boss however commended some of the schools for working inline with the terms of reference as indicated by the council with zero telorance for examination malpractices.
Meanwhile,the Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Education, David Adejo who was also part of the delegation to the various centres visited commended WAEC on the use of Technology in the conduct of its examinations. Some of the school administrators also share their experiences especially as it relates to mitigating the ugly trend of examination malpractices.
The need for the federal government to recruit qualified teachers as well as make available basic facilities to aid learning was further emphasized by the WAEC leadership as part of strategies to deal with incidents of malpractices in examinations.
