Rivers Governorship: Court Refuses To Stop PDP Primary Election, Adjourns Till June 7

The Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has refused to grant an application filed by the embattled Rivers State governorship aspirant, Farah Dagogo challenging the conduct of the Peoples’ Democratic Party governorship primary election slated to hold on May 25
Delivering a ruling on the plaintiff’s exparte motion, justice Taiwo Taiwo held that Dagogo ambushed the court with the application, saying it ought to have been filed before the commencement of the Governorship primary.

The judge adjourned till June 7 for hearing of the substantive suit
Dagogo in a motion on notice filed at the Court sought an order of interlocutory injunction to restrain PDP from using any list of aspirants without his name to conduct the primary election pending the hearing and determination of the substantive suit.

The federal lawmaker is also seeking an order restraining INEC from accepting any candidate who might emerge from the primary election conducted without his participation.

Dagogo, a serving member of the House of Representatives, representing the Degema-Bonny federal constituency was arrested, charged to court, and initially detained in police custody.

He was standing trial on two counts of conspiracy to felony and cultism in a State High Court, but pleaded not guilty to the charges.ReplyForward
