The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, has vowed that the Nigeria Police Force will not be intimidated by the loss of 10 officers killed in a fierce encounter with suspected bandits in Kebbi State.
Disu made the declaration at a memorial parade in Abuja to honour the fallen personnel of the Special Intervention Squad.
The officers were killed on August 10, 2026, along the Rafin Makuku axis of Sakaba Local Government Area of Kebbi State, after intercepting a heavily armed group of suspected bandits moving between Zamfara and Kebbi states.
According to the IGP, 10 police officers and two civilians were killed, while two other policemen were injured in the exchange of gunfire.
He said the operation also resulted in the neutralisation of at least 17 suspected bandits and the destruction of four motorcycles belonging to the attackers.
Disu described the fallen officers as gallant personnel who paid the ultimate price while carrying out their constitutional duty to protect lives and property.
He also expressed condolences to the bereaved families, acknowledging the pain of losing husbands, fathers, sons, brothers and loved ones in the line of duty.
The IGP assured the families of continued support from the Police Force and promised that the sacrifices of their loved ones would not be forgotten.
Disu said the police would remain resolute in the fight against banditry, terrorism and other violent crimes, working with the Armed Forces, sister security agencies, state governments and local communities to restore peace.
He declared that the Force would pursue criminal elements, disrupt their operations and bring those responsible for attacks on security personnel and civilians to justice.
“We shall not be intimidated, we shall not relent, and we shall not allow the sacrifices of our fallen heroes to be in vain,” the IGP said.
He called on Nigerians to honour the fallen officers by supporting efforts to build a safer and more secure Nigeria.
