The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC has once again informed political parties that, it will not extend the dateline for the electoral process that will culminate the 2023 general elections as stipulated in the timetable and schedule of activities given to them.
INEC Chairman, Prof Mahmood Yabuku who made this clear at the second quarterly meeting with leaders of political parties at the Commissions headquarters in Abuja said there is need for strict adherence by party on date of the primaries as there will be no further review as any attempt for extension for the activities might put unnecessary pressure on the Commission and the parties.
The INEC boss while reminding the parties on need to promote inclusivity in the electoral process said the Commission remains firm in applying the law as it continue to work with the 18 political parties as critical stakeholders to achieve its mandates.
The INEC Chairman also used the forum to given an update on the commission’s preparedness towards the forth-coming Ekiti and Osun states polls.
On his part, the Chairman, Inter- Party Advisory Council (IPAC) Engr Yabagi Yusuf Sani appealed to the INEC leadership to consider adjusting the timetable and schedule of activities for the 2023 general elections Recalled that INEC ealier in May, issued a one month notice to political parties to conclude processes leading to the emergence of candidates for various elective positions for the 2023 general elections on or before June 3.
