The Husband of late alleged domestic violence victim singer, Peter Nwachukwu will soon be charged to court if found culpable in the death of his wife Osinachi Nwachukwu.
The Inspector-General of Police, Usman Alkali disclosed this when he received the Minister of Women Affairs, Pauline Tallen who paid him a courtesy visit at the Force Headquarters in Louis Edet House, Abuja.
In a statement signed by the Force Public Relations Officer CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi and made available to Channel Network Afrique, CNA, the IGP noted that the untimely death of the DUNAMIS “Nare Kele” singer was heart-breaking particularly as information from sources close to the family and independent witnesses fingered her husband, Peter Nwachukwu, as being responsible for her death.
He said the suspect is currently in detention at the FCT Police Command as investigations are still ongoing considering the sensitive nature of the case and the need to get justice and swiftly, the command approached the National Hospital, Abuja, for post-mortem examinations on the deceased to ascertain the actual cause of death.
The Inspector-General of Police further stressed that the alleged act is condemnable in all ramifications as it is both illegal and immoral for one human to take the life of another in any manner contrary to the provisions of the law.
He reiterated the commitment of the Force under his leadership to ensuring that cases including domestic violence, sexual and gender-based violence, rape, and other social vices are accorded utmost attention with a view to bringing their perpetrators to justice according to the provisions of extant laws.
Earlier, the Minister of Women Affairs, Paullen Tallen solicited the IGP support to ensure that justice is served to the killer of famous gospel musician, Osinachi Nwachukwu, whose untimely death was claimed to be from an abusive marriage by her husband Peter Nwachukwu on the 8 of April, 2022.
The statement noted that the Minister who was accompanied by some members of the late singer’s family inquired on efforts the police have put in place to ensure swift dispensation of justice as she also discussed amongst other things, the plight of women in Nigeria, particularly in relation to gender and domestic-based violence.
The FCT Command of the Nigeria Police Force arrested the deceased’s husband on the 10th April, 2022 at their residence in Lugbe, Abuja after a public outcry on her death.
