Ahead of the 2026 Federal Capital Territory FCT Area Council elections, the National Rescue Movement (NRM) has criticized the worrying trend of personality based politics over genuine leadership to the grassroots by values-driven governance.
National Chairman of the Party, Prince Chinedu Obi gave the indication at a formal event where chairmanship and councillorship aspirants officially announced their intentions ahead of the 2026 Area Council elections in the FCT.
Prince Obi who faulted the current political climate in Nigeria that signals a clear departure from democratic principles, said the NRM remains focused on the rule of law, internal democracy, and a people-first approach to governance.
The NRM Chairman further accessed the 2 years administration of President Tinubu saying that conditions had worsened for many Nigerians.
Meanwhile, some of the NRM aspirants for the forthcoming FCT Area council election unveiled some of their key policy direction in the delivery of governance at the grassroots level.
Other takeaways from the meeting include the decision by the NRM to leave its primaries open until 30 June 2025 for aspirants to complete their documentation and other necessities.
