Troops of Joint Task Force Operation WHIRL STROKE (OPWS) have neutralized one suspected bandit and arrested two alleged kidnappers during dual operations across Benue State.
According to the Acting Media Information Officer for HQ JTF OPWS, Lieutenant Ahmad Zubairu Zubairu, troops acted on credible intelligence regarding an illegal checkpoint operated by a suspected bandit kingpin along the Jortar to Atume axis.
The unit deployed to the location and engaged the armed group in a firefight, killing a suspect known as “Cool Nigga,” while other gang members fled and abandoned a motorcycle.
In a concurrent operation in Logo Local Government Area, OPWS troops raided Gou Village following local reports, leading to the arrest of two suspects: Terhile Iyo, 44, and Vershima Emmanuel, 32.
Military authorities confirmed the suspects confessed to an attempted abduction targeting a resident, Mrs. Balame Nyikwagh.
Items recovered from the duo include a locally made pistol, one live cartridge, five Tecno feature phones, a MoniePoint ATM card, an identity card, several SIM cards, and various charms.
Lieutenant Zubairu stated that the suspects remain in military custody for further investigation.
He reiterated the commitment of the task force to securing the region and urged residents to maintain cooperation with security agencies.
