Nigerians without access to decent housing may soon have reason for optimism as the Federal Government has unveiled plans to deliver about 150,000 affordable housing units across the country’s 774 local government areas under the proposed Tinubu Mass Social Housing Scheme.
President Bola Tinubu disclosed this at the 20th Africa International Housing Show in Abuja.
Represented by the Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Engr. Mu’taqha Rabe Darma, the President said the initiative would complement the ongoing New Hope Housing Programme aimed at expanding access to affordable and decent housing for Nigerians.
The President explained that the proposed housing scheme, which will see about 200 housing units constructed in each of the 774 local government areas, represents a major step toward ensuring that every Nigerian has access to safe, decent, and affordable housing.
He added that the initiative aligns with his administration’s commitment to improving the welfare of citizens and addressing the nation’s housing deficit.
Earlier, Founder of the Africa International Housing Show, Festus Adebayo, described the 20th edition as a “Legacy Edition,” marking two decades of advancing practical housing solutions and fostering collaboration among stakeholders across Africa’s housing sector.

Also unveiled at the event was the National Housing Data Programme, Nigeria’s first integrated housing database. The platform is designed to provide reliable housing data to support evidence based policymaking, mortgage development, investment decisions, and effective planning within the housing sector.
