Tinubu Approves New Appointments For NECO, NBTE
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved fresh appointments across key education agencies, including the National Examination Council (NECO), National Board of Technical Education (NBTE), Federal Polytechnic, N’yak Shendam in Plateau State, and the National Library of Nigeria.
According to a statement by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, Prof. Modupe Adeola Adelabu has been appointed Chairman of the Governing Board of NECO, while the incumbent Registrar, Prof. Ibrahim Dantani Wushishi, will remain in office.
For the Federal Polytechnic, N’yak Shendam, the President appointed Engr. Dr. Bongfa Binfa as Rector for a single five year term, following the expiration of the tenure of the pioneer Rector, Dr. Mukaila Zakari Ya’u, on March 16, 2026.
The appointment followed a selection process initiated through a public advertisement in September 2025.
At the National Library of Nigeria, Prof. Chinwe Veronica Anunobi’s tenure as Director/Chief Executive Officer has been renewed for a final five year term.
First appointed on September 2, 2021, she has led reforms aimed at modernising the institution, including the rollout of digital initiatives such as the National Repository of Nigeria and the National Virtual Library. She has also overseen progress toward completing the National Library Headquarters project in Abuja and plans to relocate heritage collections from state branches.
Meanwhile, Prof. Babatunde Salako has been appointed Chairman of the NBTE Governing Board.
Earlier, on April 10, President Tinubu reappointed the Executive Secretary of NBTE, Prof. Idris M. Bugaje, for a second and final five year term.
Prof. Adelabu is a retired professor of educational administration and a former Deputy Governor of Ekiti State (2013–2014), and previously served as Chairman of NBTE from 2018 to 2021.
Prof. Salako, a seasoned academic and researcher, served as Director General of the Nigerian Institute of Medical Research (NIMR) from 2016 to 2024, where he led institutional reforms, strengthened research governance, and expanded global partnerships.
Dr. Binfa holds a PhD in Mechanical Engineering from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia and previously served as Deputy Rector (Academic) at the Federal Polytechnic of Oil and Gas, Bonny.
He also lectured at the Federal Polytechnic, Idah.
The statement noted that the appointments and tenure renewal are aimed at ensuring continuity, strengthening institutional leadership, and advancing ongoing reforms in the education sector.
President Tinubu expressed confidence that the appointees would enhance governance and support the effective implementation of strategic plans across the institutions.
