TCN Restores Ajah-Lekki 330kV Transmission Line After Two-Day Disruption

The Transmission Company of Nigeria, TCN, says it has restored the Ajah-Lekki 330 kilovolt transmission line following technical faults that disrupted power supply in parts of Lagos.

In a statement, the company said the line was restored at 3:18 p.m. on Wednesday, October 21, 2026, after engineers resolved a fault that prevented the closure of a circuit breaker at the Lekki Transmission Substation.

TCN said the disruption began at 12:40 p.m. on October 19, when Ajah Transmission Substation lost supply from the Egbin-Ajah 330kV transmission lines one and two due to a system disturbance.

The Ajah-Lekki line subsequently tripped again on October 20 following a three phase to ground fault on its Zone One protection system.

Although the line was restored at 6:50 p.m. that day, engineers were unable to close the gas insulated switchgear circuit breaker at the Lekki substation because of a pole discordance.

TCN said its engineers had since resolved the problem and successfully closed the breaker, allowing the transmission line to return to service.

The company apologised to customers of Eko Electricity Distribution Company affected by the outage, thanking them for their patience and regretting the inconvenience caused.
