The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has foiled an attempted vandalism at its 330/132kV transmission substation in Bauchi, recovering critical transmission tower components and a vehicle suspected to have been used by the perpetrators.

The incident occurred at about 9:34 p.m. on Friday, July 24, 2026, when security personnel on duty intercepted suspected vandals attempting to remove essential tower members from the facility.

According to TCN, the suspects fled the scene after spotting the security guards, abandoning the stolen items.

A subsequent inspection of the area led to the recovery of 12 transmission tower angle irons, a heavy duty metal measuring scale and a white pickup truck believed to have been used for the operation.

The recovered items and the vehicle have been handed over to the Railway Division Police Station in Bauchi for further investigation.

TCN confirmed that no equipment was stolen and no injuries were recorded during the incident.

The company commended the swift response and vigilance of its security personnel, noting that their prompt intervention prevented damage to critical electricity transmission infrastructure.

TCN also urged host communities to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities around power installations to security agencies or the nearest TCN office to help safeguard national power assets.
