Former National Secretary of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Sani Abdullahi Shinkafi, has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for appointing Senator Abdul’Aziz Abubakar Yari as Director-General of the 2027 Tinubu/Shettima Presidential Campaign Council.
In a statement issued on Saturday, August 22, 2026, Shinkafi described Yari as an experienced politician with the organisational capacity, grassroots connections and national network required to lead the campaign.
He said the appointment demonstrated President Tinubu’s commitment to political inclusivity and competence, describing Yari as a leader with a strong record of political organisation and public service.
Shinkafi traced Yari’s political career to Zamfara State, where he served as secretary and later chairman of the defunct All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP). He credited Yari with playing a leading role in the campaign that secured the 2003 re-election of former Zamfara State Governor Ahmad Sani Yariman Bakura.
Yari subsequently served as National Treasurer of the ANPP before entering the National Assembly, where he represented Anka/Talata Mafara Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives from 2007 to 2011.
According to Shinkafi, Yari’s experience at both grassroots and national levels has enabled him to build relationships across political, traditional, youth and women’s groups.
He also highlighted Yari’s role in the emergence of the APC, noting that, as governor of Zamfara State, he was among the political figures who supported the establishment and consolidation of the party in the state.
Shinkafi said these experiences would be valuable in coordinating the 2027 presidential campaign and mobilising support for the Tinubu/Shettima ticket across the country.
He urged APC members, party stakeholders and Nigerians who support the democratic process to cooperate with the campaign council, expressing confidence that Yari would provide disciplined and focused leadership.
“With Senator Abdul’Aziz Abubakar Yari leading the charge as Director-General, we have no doubt that this Campaign Council will be disciplined, laser focused, and will deliver a historic victory to the Tinubu/Shettima ticket and the APC,” Shinkafi said.
