Power Outage Looms In Kogi, Edo As TCN Undertakes Substation Maintenance

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has announced a planned seven-hour power interruption affecting several communities and businesses in Kogi and Edo states on Tuesday, September 15, 2026.

TCN said the disruption, scheduled for 9am to 4pm, is to enable its engineers carry out annual preventive maintenance on the 162MVA, 330/132kV power transformer at the Ajaokuta Transmission Substation.

According to the company, associated switchgear and other ancillary equipment at the 330/132kV Ajaokuta Transmission Substation will also undergo maintenance during the exercise.

As a result, the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) will be unable to off-take electricity to customers in Ekirin, Omuo, Ibillo, Akoko, Ogala, Ikare, Magongo, Okene Town, Ayere, Kabba and surrounding areas.

Similarly, the Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC) will be unable to supply customers in Okpella Town, BUA Cement Company, West African Fertilizer Company, Dibeks Milling Company, Edestein Company, Freedom Group Company, Ososo, Uluoke, Iyora, Apana, Okpekpe, Arigidi, Ikare Town, Lampese, Igara and Oka, among other adjoining areas.

TCN said electricity supply would be restored to the affected areas immediately after the maintenance work is completed.

The transmission company apologized for the inconvenience caused by the planned outage and appealed to affected customers for their understanding and cooperation.
