The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has called on corps employers to create enabling environments that allow corps members to maximize their potential and contribute innovative solutions to society.

Director General of the NYSC, Olakunle Nafiu, made the call during the launch of the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) Innovation Space, tagged “Idea2Impact,” at the agency’s headquarters in Abuja.

In a statement issued by the NYSC Director of Information and Public Relations, Caroline Embu, Nafiu described corps members as “solution providers” who require mentoring, guidance, and effective leadership to thrive.

He commended NITDA for providing a platform for corps members to showcase their creativity and ingenuity, noting that the initiative offers a practical opportunity for young Nigerians to develop impactful ideas.

“The youths we have at the NYSC are solution providers, and I want to challenge ministries, departments and agencies, as well as private organizations, to tap into their wealth of experience and skills to create solutions for society,” he said.

Nafiu added that the NYSC scheme remains relevant and continues to evolve, highlighting recent efforts to digitize corps members’ identity cards and introduce other technological innovations.

In his remarks, Director-General of NITDA, Kashifu Inuwa Abdullahi, said the agency is committed to equipping young Nigerians with skills needed to adapt to changes in the information and communications technology sector.

He emphasized the importance of career planning and personal strategy, urging corps members to be proactive and visible in showcasing their skills as they prepare to enter the labour market.

Inuwa noted that NITDA has created multiple opportunities for corps members, some of whom have contributed significantly to the agency’s operations, including developing solutions that support its internal processes and artificial intelligence transformation plans.

He added that outstanding corps members who distinguish themselves during their service year may be retained by the agency.

The “Idea2Impact” initiative is designed to provide a platform for corps members to transform innovative ideas into practical solutions, further strengthening youth participation in Nigeria’s digital economy.
