The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has strengthened the security features of its Call-up and Posting Letters to curb fraud and prevent the cloning of official documents by unscrupulous individuals.
The Director-General of NYSC, Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, disclosed this when he paid a courtesy visit to the Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa, in Abuja.
Nafiu said some individuals had devised ways of cloning NYSC Call-up and Posting Letters and issuing fake copies to prospective employers while extorting money from unsuspecting Corps Members.
He explained that the enhanced security features had made the documents more difficult to manipulate and would enable employers to easily verify their authenticity.
The NYSC boss also disclosed that a joint committee comprising officials of the Scheme and the Federal Ministry of Education had been constituted to strengthen collaboration between the two institutions.
According to him, the committee will also ensure that only qualified and eligible Nigerian graduates participate in the National Youth Service Corps.
Commending the NYSC leadership, Alausa praised the Scheme for its digital transformation, particularly the adoption of technology in the registration and deployment of Corps Members.
The minister recalled that the introduction of technology into the registration process initially faced resistance from some sections of the public.
He, however, noted that the digitisation of the process had significantly improved the efficiency of NYSC operations and was now receiving widespread commendation.
“I would like to commend you for all the transformation that you have brought to NYSC and the use of technology to ensure seamless operations and deployment of Corps Members,” Alausa said.
The minister urged the NYSC leadership to sustain its digital transformation efforts and leverage technology to further improve the efficiency and transparency of its operations.
