Nigeria’s Military Leadership Hosts Golf Kitty To Commemorate 2026 Remembrance Day

The Ministry of Defence and the Armed Forces of Nigeria (AFN) has held a commemorative Golf Kitty at the Tukur Yusuf Buratai International Golf Resort and Country Club to mark the 2026 Armed Forces Celebration and Remembrance Day.
​The event, held at Yar’Adua Barracks in Asokoro accordingto statement signed by the Director, Defence Information, Major General Samaila Uba and made available to Channel Network Afrique, CNA, served as a tribute to Nigeria’s fallen heroes, veterans, and personnel currently wounded in action. It brought together senior military officers and over 100 members of the golfing community to foster camaraderie and physical fitness.
​In his keynote address, the Special Guest of Honour and Honourable Minister of Defence, General Christopher Gwabin Musa (Rtd), described the Remembrance Day as a solemn national occasion. He emphasized that the day is dedicated to those who paid the “supreme price” to defend Nigeria’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
​”This annual commemoration serves as a reminder of the sacrifices made by our officers and men in safeguarding the nation’s peace, unity, and security,” General Musa stated. He added that sporting events like golf are essential to the military ethos, as they build the mental resilience and operational readiness required for service.
​The Minister also extended his gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his commitment to military welfare and commended the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) for his leadership.
​The Chief of Defence Staff, General Olufemi Oluyede, echoed these sentiments, praising the professionalism of the troops involved in ongoing internal security operations. General Oluyede stressed that security is a “collective responsibility” and urged Nigerians to strengthen civil-military cooperation to ensure national stability.
​Brigadier General Nicholas Ashinze, Captain of the TYB International Golf Resort, noted that the tournament saw participation from over 100 golfers, describing the opportunity to host the event as a significant honor for the club.
​The ceremony concluded with the presentation of awards and prizes to outstanding golfers, along with souvenirs to guests, symbolizing the unity and shared purpose of the Nigerian military community.
