Nigeria has intensified efforts to strengthen bilateral relations with Qatar through initiatives aimed at creating employment opportunities for Nigerians and expanding cooperation in the energy sector.
Nigeria’s Ambassador to Qatar, Mahmood Yakubu, held separate high level meetings in Doha on Sunday with senior Qatari officials and energy stakeholders to advance the country’s economic and diplomatic interests.
During a meeting with Qatar’s Minister of Labour, Ali bin Saeed bin Samikh Al Marri, discussions focused on expanding employment opportunities for Nigerians in the Gulf nation.
Ambassador Yakubu said the initiative aligns with Nigeria’s “4D Doctrine” foreign policy, which places priority on diaspora engagement as a driver of national development.
The envoy also hosted a delegation from the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF), led by its Secretary General, Dr. Philip Mshelbila, a Nigerian.
The meeting explored areas of cooperation in the gas sector, as Nigeria seeks to deepen its engagement with the Doha based organisation.
Nigeria currently plays a prominent role in the GECF, with the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Gas), Ekperikpe Ekpo, serving as Chairman of the Forum’s ministerial meetings.
