The Federal Government of Nigeria has expressed grave concern over recent military escalation between the Houthi militia in Yemen and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, following an attack on civilian areas in Saudi Arabia’s Najran Region.
In a press release issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (No: MFA/PR/2026/192), spokesperson Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa condemned the strike, which resulted in injuries to several civilians, including women and children.
The Nigerian government characterized the incident as a flagrant violation of international humanitarian law and the principles governing the protection of non-combatants during armed conflicts.
Reaffirming its opposition to rising violence in the Middle East, Abuja stated that deliberate strikes against civilian populations and infrastructure are unacceptable regardless of the perpetrator and demand clear international condemnation.
The ministry called on all involved parties to exercise maximum restraint, comply with international legal frameworks, and prioritize civilian safety. It further urged diplomatic stakeholders to intensify efforts toward a peaceful, sustainable resolution that respects the sovereignty, territorial integrity, and security of all nations in the region.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs added that it is actively monitoring developments and will continue collaborating with international partners to foster peace and stability across the Gulf and broader Middle East region.
