Minister of Defence, General Christopher Gwabin Musa (Rtd), has called on Nigerians to remain united, keep faith in the country, and support the nation’s security personnel as Nigeria marks its 66th Independence Anniversary.
Musa made the call on Sunday during an inter-denominational church service held at the National Christian Centre, Abuja, as part of activities marking the anniversary celebration.
The service, themed “Anchored on Hope: The Path to Divine Stability and Shared Prosperity,” brought together senior government officials, members of the diplomatic corps, military leaders and Christian faithful.
Speaking during the service, the Defence Minister said Nigeria’s hope for a peaceful, secure and prosperous future remains strong, stressing that security remains the foundation for national unity and development.
He reaffirmed the commitment of the Armed Forces of Nigeria to protecting the country’s sovereignty and restoring peace across all regions, while urging citizens to support security personnel and work together in building a stable nation.
Among those in attendance were Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) George Akume, Service Chiefs, members of the diplomatic community and senior clergy.
In his remarks, Akpabio prayed for peace, unity and progress in the country, emphasising the need for collective efforts to achieve lasting stability.
Akume, who delivered the vote of thanks, underscored the importance of sustaining democratic stability and encouraged Nigerians to continue supporting the country’s democratic process.
The service ended with the ceremonial cutting of the cake to mark Nigeria’s 66th Independence Anniversary, led by the Defence Minister alongside other dignitaries.
