Troops of Sector 2 Operation FANSAN YAMMA have neutralized two terrorists, foiled an infiltration attempt, and rescued several abducted civilians during coordinated operations across Sokoto and Katsina states over the weekend.

According to a statement issued on Monday by Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, Media Information Officer for the Joint Task Force (North West), the operations also resulted in the recovery of weapons, operational vehicles, and rustled livestock.

Sokoto Infiltration Foiled and Hostages Rescued

The first encounter occurred on Sunday, June 21, 2026, when armed terrorists attempted to infiltrate Tureta town in Sokoto State. Acting on actionable intelligence, troops engaged the criminals, forcing them to abort the attack and flee.

Subsequent aerial surveillance tracked the fleeing suspects to Sulubawa Gidan Kare village, where they were spotted with rustled cattle and abducted civilians. Troops launched a pursuit and successfully fought through a hasty ambush laid by the retreating terrorists. The operation led to the rescue of the hostages, the recovery of the rustled livestock, and the seizure of two motorcycles.

Katsina Dawn Raid

In a separate operation during the early hours of Monday, June 22, 2026, troops executed an intelligence-driven dawn raid on a terrorist enclave in the Matazu Local Government Area of Katsina State.

Two terrorists were killed in the ensuing firefight, while several others escaped with gunshot wounds. A search of the hideout yielded:

  • One PKT assault rifle
  • One AK-47 rifle with ammunition
  • Three motorcycles
  • Mobile communication devices
  • Additional rustled livestock and logistical items

Lt. Col. Danja stated that aggressive operations will be sustained across the North West region to dismantle remaining terrorist networks and restore lasting peace.
