The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) says troops of the Armed Forces of Nigeria neutralised 217 terrorists and other criminals, rescued 349 kidnapped victims and arrested 333 suspects during operations conducted nationwide in October.

Director of Defence Media Operations, Major General Michael Onoja, disclosed this during the monthly media briefing in Abuja.

General Onoja said the troops, supported by the air component and other security agencies, sustained high-tempo kinetic and non-kinetic operations against terrorism, banditry, kidnapping, oil theft and other criminal activities across the country.

According to him, 70 insurgents surrendered during the period, while troops recovered 105 weapons and 3,174 rounds of ammunition.

He said notable successes included the rescue of 20 abducted prospective National Youth Service Corps members in Imo State, the rescue of 29 farmers in Niger State and 27 villagers in Katsina State, as well as the repelling of several terrorist attacks in the North-East.

The military spokesman said sustained pressure had degraded terrorist operational capabilities, disrupted supply routes and restricted the activities of criminal networks across the country.

He added that troops remained committed to protecting lives and property while consolidating gains already recorded in ongoing security operations.
