FCT TUC Calls For Urgent Worker Support Amid Economic Hardship.
The Chairperson of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Trade Union Congress, TUC, Amoge Chukwudi, has called for urgent measures to support workers amid rising economic challenges linked to global crises.
Speaking at the State Administrative Council meeting in Abuja, Chukwudi described the current economic climate as difficult, attributing it to global tensions involving Israel, the United States, and Iran, with ripple effects on economies worldwide, including Nigeria.
She, however, expressed hope that the tensions will ease soon, while stressing the need for immediate local solutions to cushion the impact on Nigerian workers across both public and private sectors.
The union is also proposing flexible work arrangements, including remote work and shift systems, to help reduce transportation costs for workers in the FCT.
The meeting marks the council’s first major gathering since its inauguration in November last year.
