DHQ Mourns Ex-Spokesman Maj. Gen. Abubakar, Vows to Intensify Anti-Terror Operations

​The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has announced the death of the former Director of Defence Information, Retired Major General Rabe Abubakar, who died while being held in captivity by abductors.
​In a statement released by the current Director of Defence Information, Major General Samaila Uba, the Armed Forces of Nigeria (AFN) expressed deep condolences to the Abubakar family, his colleagues, and the nation.
​According to the military, the DHQ had previously withheld public comment regarding Major General Abubakar’s abduction to safeguard ongoing rescue operations. The military stated that every available operational resource had been deployed by the AFN and sister security agencies in an effort to secure his safe release.
​Major General Uba stated that the tragedy has further strengthened the military’s resolve to fulfill its constitutional mandate of protecting Nigerian citizens and defending the nation’s territorial integrity.
​”In response to a series of unfortunate abductions across Nigeria, including that of Major General Abubakar, ongoing operations have since been further intensified to bring perpetrators to justice and to dismantle all terrorist networks threatening our nation,” Uba said.
​The DHQ assured the public that the Armed Forces will continue its aggressive operations until peace is restored and those responsible for terrorist activities across the country are held accountable.
​During his military career, Major General Abubakar served as the spokesperson for various military formations before becoming the Director of Defence Information for the AFN. The military credited him with making immense contributions to Nigeria’s counter-insurgency operations and the professional development of the armed forces.
