Defence Minister Commissions Armoured Vehicles In Sokoto, Charges Troops To Intensify Fight Against Insecurity
The Minister of Defence, General Christopher Musa (retd.), has commissioned a fleet of armoured vehicles and other security equipment procured by the Sokoto State Government, describing the acquisition as a strategic investment aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s internal security architecture.
Speaking at the commissioning ceremony in Sokoto on Wednesday, the minister commended Governor Ahmed Aliyu for what he described as proactive leadership and commitment to protecting lives and property in the state.
Musa said the procurement of the security assets demonstrated the state government’s recognition that peace and security remain critical to sustainable development.
He reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to tackling insecurity under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, stressing that protecting lives, restoring peace and creating an enabling environment for economic growth remain top priorities.
The minister noted that addressing contemporary security challenges requires closer collaboration among the federal, state and local governments, as well as stronger partnerships with communities.
According to him, the newly acquired armoured vehicles and security equipment will enhance the operational capabilities of security agencies through improved force protection, greater mobility and faster response to security threats.
“While modern equipment is essential, it must be driven by professionalism, discipline and seamless inter-agency coordination. We are deeply appreciative of the Sokoto State Government for complementing conventional military operations with community based intelligence initiatives. True security is anchored on public trust and timely information,” he said.
Musa also charged security personnel deployed to the frontline to use the equipment responsibly and professionally, urging them to uphold the rule of law while carrying out their duties.
He said the troops must justify the government’s investment by demonstrating integrity, selfless service and achieving decisive victories against criminal elements threatening peace and stability.
The minister reiterated the commitment of the Armed Forces to leveraging modern technology and improving personnel welfare to enhance national security and ensure Nigerians can pursue their livelihoods without fear.
