Chinese Ambassador to Nigeria, Yu Dunhai, has issued a comprehensive statement marking the 105th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China (CPC) on July 1, 2026. The envoy highlighted China’s historical transformation under the Party’s governance and reaffirmed Beijing’s commitment to elevating its strategic partnership with Nigeria.
Ambassador Yu attributed China’s evolution into the world’s second-largest economy to the targeted leadership of the CPC. He noted that as China successfully concludes its 14th Five-Year Plan and transitions into its 15th Five-Year Plan, the nation remains on track to achieve its long-range development objectives set for 2035.
Four Pillars of China’s Development Model
According to the statement, China’s modernization offers an alternative to Western models, providing a practical blueprint for developing nations seeking independent growth. Ambassador Yu outlined four core principles driving the CPC’s governance:
Independence and Self-Reliance: Rejection of one-size-fits-all foreign models, ensuring China maintains control over its own developmental trajectory.
People-Centered Policy: Success in eradicating absolute poverty for over 700 million rural residents, alongside establishing universal compulsory education and basic medical coverage for over 1.3 billion citizens.
Rigorous Self-Reform: Continuous anti-corruption campaigns and strict self-governance to maintain political stability and institutional trust.
Theoretical Innovation: The formal establishment of Xi Jinping Thought on Party Building as a new framework to guide national rejuvenation, alongside global initiatives focused on development, security, and global governance reform.
Strengthening the China-Nigeria Alliance
Turning to bilateral relations, Ambassador Yu noted that 2026 marks 55 years of diplomatic ties between China and Nigeria, a relationship established in 1971.
”No matter how the international landscape evolves, the CPC and the Chinese Government have remained unwavering in their commitment to long-term friendship with Nigeria,” the Ambassador stated.
The envoy emphasized that China will continue to support Nigeria in pursuing a modernization path tailored to its unique national realities. Moving forward, Beijing plans to utilize institutional frameworks like the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) to facilitate closer governance exchanges.
A key priority for the immediate future includes aligning China’s newly launched 15th Five-Year Plan with Nigeria’s “Renewed Hope Agenda” to drive mutual economic benefits, expand practical cooperation, and advance the China-Nigeria Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
