Cardoso, Iweala Lead Global Leaders To Abuja For Africa Emerging Markets Forum

Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor Olayemi Cardoso and World Trade Organisation (WTO) Director-General Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala will feature in a high-level dialogue at the 7th Africa Emerging Markets Forum, scheduled to hold at the CBN Headquarters in Abuja from July 29 to 30, 2026.​

The two-day event is organized by the CBN in partnership with the Emerging Markets Forum (EMF) and the Centre for the Study of the Economies of Africa (CSEA).

Under the theme “Building Resilience Amidst Geoeconomic Uncertainties,” the forum brings together central bankers, finance ministers, development partners, academic experts, and private-sector leaders from across Africa and internationally.​

The main session between Cardoso and Okonjo-Iweala will focus on strategies for African countries to strengthen economic stability, sustain policy reforms, expand regional trade, and foster long-term growth despite global economic shifts.​

Ministerial keynote addresses will be delivered by the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr. Taiwo Oyedele, and the Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation, Dr. Kingsley Udeh.

Their presentations will address the alignment of fiscal, monetary, and technological policies to support regional economic stability.​

Other notable speakers include:​Indermit Gill, Chief Economist and Senior Vice President for Development Economics at the World Bank Group​Harinder Kohli, Founding Director and Chief Executive of the Emerging Markets Forum​Prof. Adamu Ahmed, Vice-Chancellor of Ahmadu Bello University​Session discussions over the two days will cover macroeconomic policy, cross-border payment integration, fintech adoption, foreign direct investment, technology transfer, and artificial intelligence.

Delegates will also address pressing challenges such as food price volatility, rising inflation, and monetary policy implementation in post-crisis economies.​

Organizers noted that the forum aims to encourage practical, country-specific policy solutions to help developing markets navigate global financial pressures and support long-term inclusive growth across the continent.
