Troops Foil Kidnapping Attempts, Rescue 8 Victims in Plateau and Kaduna

Troops of the Joint Task Force, Operation Enduring Peace, have foiled multiple kidnapping attempts and rescued eight victims during a series of tactical operations over the last 48 hours across Plateau and Kaduna States. The military confirmed that while several operational successes were recorded between June 5 and June 6, 2026, aggressive manhunts are still underway to locate fleeing suspects and remaining missing persons. In Plateau State, troops from Sector 6 responded to reports at approximately 12:30 a.m. on Friday, June 5, regarding suspected kidnappers who had blocked the highway along the Hawan Kibo–Rafin Sayin axis in Riyom Local Government Area. Upon arrival, the tactical team discovered an abandoned ash-colored Honda vehicle (registration number APP-93CF) in the middle of the road.A subsequent search and rescue operation in the surrounding bushes led to the successful rescue of six passengers. The victims stated they had boarded the commercial vehicle from Lafia, Nasarawa State, and were heading to Jos. While the passengers are safe, the driver of the vehicle remains missing, and active search operations are ongoing. In a separate incident in Plateau State on June 5, troops of Sector 5 responded to a distress call from Faggem Village in Bokkos Local Government Area. The military intervention forced criminals to abandon an ongoing abduction attempt and flee into a nearby forest. Troops rescued a local pastor and his wife, both of whom had sustained injuries during the initial assault by the kidnappers. The couple was evacuated to the Bokkos medical clinic for treatment.Meanwhile, in Kaduna State, troops of Sector 7 deployed at Ungwan Gora, Sanga Local Government Area, intercepted a highway block by suspected terrorists between Rafi Tagwai and Angwan Dariya during the early hours of Saturday, June 6.The terrorists had already abducted passengers from a commercial vehicle before the military’s arrival. Troops recovered eight empty cases of 7.62mm special ammunition at the scene before pursuing the attackers into the adjoining forest. The operation resulted in the rescue of two injured passengers, who were immediately evacuated to a hospital in the Fadan Karshi District. Efforts to rescue the remaining occupants of the vehicle are still ongoing. In a statement issued by Captain Chinonso Polycarp Oteh, the Media Information Officer for Operation Enduring Peace, reassured the public of the military’s commitment to clearing highways and communities of criminal elements. He urged citizens to remain vigilant and provide timely intelligence to security agencies.
