President Tinubu to Launch Multinational Gulf of Guinea Task Force at Navy’s 70th Anniversary

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is scheduled to launch a new multinational Gulf of Guinea task force as part of activities marking the Nigerian Navy’s 70th anniversary.

The Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Idi Abbas, announced the development during a press conference in Abuja.

Represented by Chief of Policy and Plans, Rear Admiral Akinola Olatunde Olodude, Vice Admiral Abbas said move shows Nigerian Navy’s dominance in Africa.

Also speaking on the growth of the maritime force, Rear Admiral Olodude highlighted the Navy’s transformation over the last seven decades, noting that the naval fleet has expanded significantly from its origins of just 11 colonial ships to its current position of naval dominance on the African continent.

The upcoming anniversary celebrations and the launch of the multinational task force underscore Nigeria’s commitment to securing the strategic Gulf of Guinea waters and strengthening regional maritime defense cooperation.
