Over 58,000 Candidates Sit For 2026 National Common Entrance Examination Nationwide

A total of 58,187 candidates on Saturday sat for the 2026 National Common Entrance Examination (NCEE) for admission into Federal Government Colleges across Nigeria.

The Minister of State for Education, Professor Suwaiba Ahmad, expressed satisfaction with the conduct of the examination.

Speaking with journalists after monitoring the exercise at selected centres within the Abuja metropolis, the minister reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to improving educational infrastructure and enhancing learning conditions in schools.


Meanwhile, the Registrar of the National Examinations Council (NECO), Professor Ibrahim Wushishi, disclosed that female candidates accounted for the majority of registrations, with more than 31,000 girls registered for the examination compared to about 26,000 boys.
Wushishi also revealed that the number of candidates who sat for this year’s examination was lower than the 64,578 candidates who registered for the exercise in 2025.

Further analysis of the registration data showed that female candidates maintained a clear lead in participation, accounting for over 31,000 registrations, while male candidates numbered about 26,000.
